Eilthir Afghan Hounds

The Past
by Moira

All three of our previous afghans came to us through the Afghan Hound Breed Rescue Society of Scotland.

"Sultan"
Chinkram Tomec
(Tamerlane Coillebhroin X Shirina Ellie May)
DOB: 28 June 1972

Our first afghan hound (his 4th home, we think).  A handsome dog with a huge personality and exceptional intellignce, he was the best companion anyone could ask for.  He was loyal and loving but hated the smell of alcohol.  We assumed this was due to some incident when he was a puppy, before he came to us.

"Bluebird"

Bluebird came to us from a couple who had bought her as a foundation bitch.  They had purchased her and her brother, Boy Blue, from a breeder.  They quickly realised that she was unsuitable and she was so timid that she was upsetting their other dogs.
During the few months we had her she gradually gained enough confidence to come to me if I was patient and made no sudden movements.  She never stood properly upright and our vet believed this was because she had been caged in a container that had not been big enough for her.  She began to haemorrhage, a result of her having been used too often for breeding, and eventualy we had to have her put to sleep.  She had the biggest, gentlest brown eyes and I hope we gave her a few months of love and kindness after a life where both had been lacking.
The couple who sold Bluebird to us refused to give us her papers or any information about who her previous owners had been as this person was a breed judge and they did not want to risk any repercussions.  To this day if I could identify this person I would do my best to make sure she was named and shamed as anyone who could treat a dog in this fashion has no place amongst resposible dog owners.

"Muna"
Ismala B'har of Tarril
(Tajeer Khan of Tarril X Anzani Snow Princess)
DOB: 01 February 1973

Muna came to us when her previous owners emigrated to Australia.  She had had a short show career but had not enjoyed her time in the ring.  She had been clipped out when she came to us and did not like being groomed so we kept her coat short.  She was a gentle loving dog but not the sharpest.  She enjoyed her food but was not too keen on exercise.
